Company profile

St1 Biofuels Oy was established in 2006 as a subsidiary of the Finnish energy company St1 Oy with a goal of creating a sustainable bioethanol production concept that could be utilized widely.

Since then, the company has pioneered in waste-based bioethanol production with several plants built. The expertise of St1 Biofuels lies within biochemical processes, technology development, engineering, and project delivery. The core idea is to replace fossil fuels in a profitable and sustainable way by combining own and third-party technology.

St1 Biofuels produces bioethanol for transportation from waste and process residues. Using waste as feedstock offers a concrete way to reduce harmful fossil emissions in traffic and to provide new methods of waste management. Our ongoing research and development projects increase the capacity of bioethanol production as new feedstock and plant technologies become available.
